ABC's of Haggling
JUNK IN YOUR TRUNK
J is for junk..........
So, do you have junk in your trunk? I’m talking about the trunk of your car!
This segment of “ABC’s of Haggling” takes an interesting twist. “J” got me thinking of “junk.” “Junk” in your trunk, literally!
Haggling is for sure a natural part of most everyone’s life. Somewhere, sometime everyone haggles one way or another. Haggling is good. Repeat after me......haggling is good. It should be.
There is a time, not too often, when haggling can lead to “not so good.” Let’s say you get the haggling bug. You start honing you skills in the haggle arena and it becomes easier. You start enjoying the art of the haggle and even have some fun while you’re doing it. Good, right? Sure, it’s good but, suppose you start loving it and find yourself shopping all the time just for the haggle experience. Ok, that’s fine, but moderation is the key here.
A good haggle does not happen every time you try it. Eventually, you might find yourself shopping so much and walking away with items whether you haggled or not. Heaven forbid you become a {{{haggle addict}}} which leads to {{{junk in your trunk}}}.
You think it can’t happen? It can, as evidenced by all the shopaholics out there. You might even know someone who has this problem. Who knows what can trigger a person to turn into a shopaholic. I wouldn’t rule out haggling as a trigger. If you start using haggling as an excuse to shop, you better beware. Too much of a good thing can turn into a bad thing. You’ll start storing junk in your trunk from all your shopping expeditions!
One of the tactics for haggling is “if I buy more, can I get a discount”? That haggling tidbit can get you in trouble if you’re prone to junk in your trunk. More is not necessarily better, in this case. More is not good if it only means the discount and you walk out with an armload of stuff wondering what the heck will I do with all this stuff? Worse yet, you’re left also wondering where will I put it all?
So, be careful. Pace yourself. Remember, you will not be successful in every haggle attempt and too much of a good thing taken to excess leads to no fun.
Want to share some of your haggle stories here? Have a question about a haggle disaster or an upcoming haggle? I’d love to hear about it! Shoot me an e-mail at contact@mywherehaus.com and I’ll post your stories or questions here, if you like. Together we can hone your skills and come out winning!
